What Reflexology qualification do you have? I have completed the full Clinical Reflexology course through the Australian School of Reflexology. I am a qualified Reflexologist recognised by the Reflexology Association of Australia.
What type of reflexology do you practice? Modern reflexology - which is based on an ancient form of therapy originating from Egypt and China. Dr William Fitzgerald (1872 - 1942) an ENT who introduced modern reflexology to the medical world through Zone Therapy between 1915-1917. Eunice Ingham (1889-1974) a Physical Therapist who worked with Fitzgerald and Zone Therapy to develop the Ingham Method. Ingham spent many hours probing feet, finding tender spots and equating them to the anatomy of the body. She then began working on people's feet, using her thumb and fingers to push and prod, balancing the body systems, and working within the pain tolerance level of the client. The treatment is always holistic - that is all reflexes are worked with some reflexes being emphasised a little more than others. I also incorporate Chinese reflexology meridian points through the treatment.
Are your reflexology sessions painful? I believe that to heal the body needs to be relaxed, I work within the pain tolerance level of the client, and there may be some tender reflex points which will be worked on however this is a small part of the treatment.
How long is a reflexology session? I offer a number of different combination treatments which include feet, hand, and ear reflexology and reiki and sound therapy, these sessions can be up to 2 hours. A standard reflexology treatment is 1 hour, this time is used to provide a holistic treatment and focus on key reflex points. I also offer an introductory treatment for 30 minutes, this time is used to provide a quick holistic treatment, however does not allow time to focus on reflex points. The 30 minute sessions are great to get an understanding of what reflexology is, in addition relaxation can be achieved during the 30 minute session.
How many reflexology sessions are needed? The number of sessions needed depends on what symptoms the client is presenting and what is going on with their health. If there are key areas and specific symptoms to be worked through the number of sessions will be discussed with the client. For maintenance, a monthly treatment is recommended.
Can reflexology help with plantar fasciitis? I have had clients attend with plantar fasciitis and reflexology treatments has assisted them to get back on their feet pain free.
Can reflexology help with migraines? I work with clients who have had severe migraines. A weekly session for 10 weeks resulted in minimal headache to no headaches or migraines. Following the 10 week session a monthly maintenance treatment is recommended. Multiple lifestyle choices are assessed and some may need to change, as they can be contributing factors to the migraines.
Can reflexology help with Oedema? I work with clients who have Odema and have been able to reduce the swelling. Please note: if the Oedema comes on quickly during pregnancy, please book and appointment to see your doctor.
Can reflexology help with Neuropathy? I work with clients who have severe Neuropathy and they now have feeling back in their feet and toes and their feet are no longer stiff.
Can reflexology help with tennis elbow? Hand reflexology is great to relieve pain and tension in the arm and elbow.
How can reflexology help during pregnancy? Reflexology benefits both the woman and their baby. Reflexology is a relaxing treatment and can soothe, calm, or energise the body based on the body’s needs, contributing to overall wellbeing. During pregnancy, women experience various physical and hormonal changes, making it essential to maintain balance for the health of both mother and baby. Reflexology can alleviate common pregnancy discomforts such as nausea, backache, constipation, poor circulation, reflux, heartburn and anxiety. It is particularly beneficial in the later stages of pregnancy to help prepare for labour and can stimulate natural contractions. Postnatally, reflexology supports breastfeeding, addresses issues like engorgement and mastitis, and helps manage postnatal depression, fatigue, and stress. It is crucial to remember that new mothers also require care and nurturing during this time. For more details, review the Women’s Health and Support through Pregnancy page.
Can you tell what is wrong with me from a reflexology session? Reflexologists can identify congestion in the body through the feet and hands. Reflexologists do not diagnose, if congestion is present, we can advise the client to seek medical advice from their GP.
How do you run your meditation sound bath? My Meditation Sound Baths are tailored to the audience. With the focus on rest and digest and tapping into the parasympathetic nervous system. I like to hold a 90 minute sound bath which is a full sleep cycle; however this is also tailored to the audience. During a 90 minute sound bath you will go through the sleep cycle, with the aim to get you into Delta sleep. Delta Waves is when healing and regeneration is stimulated. 60-70% of our bodies are water and sound travels though water. The sound waves will be traveling through your body. Please ensure you drink plenty of water before and after the session. In my meditation sound bath sessions, I use Rainbow Sounds high purity Australian Quartz with 432hz tuning scale for optimal sound and vibrational therapy. Some of the benefits of crystal singing bowls are: •Reduce stress and anxiety. •Relieve physical pain. •Improve mental and emotional clarity. •Balance Chakras.
